A Sorrowful Rant

What would your church do if a gay couple showed up next Sunday morning? Would the pastor and congregation accept them or shun them? How would Jesus react to the same couple? My guess is that most churches will put on a front of love but then quickly escort the new guests out the back door wishing them good riddance and never come back.

I'm very angry tonight Gentle Readers. I am once again growing disillusioned with the Church and it bothers me.

Let me ask more questions. How many parishners in your church are having affairs on their spouses? How many secret alcoholics are there? How many people sitting all pious in the pews run home Sunday afternoon and spark up a big doobie or log on to porn sites? How many Christians think they are so much better than other sinners?
I'll tell you right now that I am not able to judge anyone that engages in activities that break the LORD's commandments. I'm struggling with my own demons. I am doing my best to stay n step with Jesus who I am yoked with. I understand that I can not carry the yoke at all but rather that it is Jesus who is bearing the entire load. I often take my eyes off Jesus and stumble. Right now I'm fighting the temptation to judge the Church for it's pride. Takes one to know one and I'm one proud son of a gun. I was one of the Pharisees holding court on those around me. My world came crashing down.
Oh how I yearn to see the Church wake up and say I'm not perfect let us welcome the thieves, prostitues and junkies and offer them rest. Show them the love that Jesus desires to share with his people. Imagine if we started healing from within, loving each other and caring instead of casting out the wounded among us. People would be beating down the doors to get into our sanctuarys instead of laughing at us.
Teach us to love LORD Jesus, show us the way. Forgive me for my wicked ways and help me bestow unconditional love on all those around me.

It is so hard not to judge. I have been guilty of it myself many times. I just try to be the best person I can be and thats all any of us can do.

One of the biggest problems in the church is arrogance. People split hairs when it comes to scripture and try to make Jesus conform to themselves.

There are many arguments that are conceived in ignorance and would be better left unsaid.

We don't remove the railroad tie out of our eye and yet point out the spec of dirt in someone elses.

And churches(Earthly assemblies) don't care about the carnage left behind as long as they have the right membership. But they do abide by the golden rule-He who has the most gold rules.

Pilgrim, if you want to delete this do so as I am writing this out of hurt more than anything else.

This is my biggest problem.I blogged about this a long time ago.My argument is the same thing....people have affairs, they steal, they lie but they act very self rightous towards people who are gay.
Who is anyone to preach right or wrong ?We are with sin and cannot cast a stone at anyone
Makes me so mad!!!

My first thought when I read this was that I think my church would welcome them. Jesus associated with the people that society didn't accept. But he didn't leave them in their sin. He told the woman at the well to go and sin no more. A gay couple would need to hear the gospel just as much as anyone else does, so I believe that my church would accept them.

My second thought when I read this was that the church might not accept them if they were publicly flaunting the fact.

Interesting post! I do think that same spirit is around that was in Jesus day..Pharisees. So focused on the law that people and the needs of people get lost. Very sad.

Well, we've got all sorts in our church, mostly people who have been thrown out of the other churches in our area! Myself included :)
So far the homosexuals that have arrived with us have come to the house churches but they don't come to the main meeting on Sunday although they have been told that they are welcome...
I know there are all sorts of problems in our congregation, alcoholics, drug addicts etc but we have gifted pastors in our preacher and his wife and they show the love of Christ to us all and in turn the congregation try to show that love right back at each other. So few churches do, but if the misfits like us can do it, there is hope yet.

A wise man told me once that if I ever found the perfect church to stay away from it because I would ruin it? It does sadden me to read these comments today. I agree we need to extend love to all sinners. Unfortunately, sometimes we have a hard time extending it to those in the church. God tells us to love the homosexuals, drunks, gossipers etc. Let's also love our brothers and sisters who have a difficult time loving others. They need our love and prayers as much as those who do not know the Lord. And.....it sounds like (here anyway) all churches are painted with the same brush. I know of some that really are God blessed churches and doing great work for them.
